Royal Kludge RK71 Review || MysticPosting
I got my Royal Kludge RK71
This is may 5th, 2021 and I am writing this review with Royal Kludge RK71 . Let me walk through the journey.
Comparison:
Last month, I was feeling the need of a mechanical keyboard as my old keyboard had a cheap build quality and bad keys. This led me to type incorrectly and slowly. As I was regularly gaming for 4 to 5 hours, writing blogs and editing video, a good keyboard has become a must for me. I tried to look for bank for the buck option.
Rapoo V500
I found Rapoo v500 which was a cheap mechanical keyboard with RGB but it had a few things bad. It had some longevity issue. It did not had programable RGB. RGB was not a big deal for me until I bought my mouse which has programable RGB. My setup is not pretty right now but when I shift to a new home and get a REAL JOB, I surely will upgrade the setup. So, I wanted to buy a keyboard that I did not need to upgrade. Also, Rapoo v500 had a bad build quality and looked cheap. It did not had a wireless mode. In this price range I did not expect it to have a wireless mode but the rest of the flaws were a deal breaker for me.
REDRAGON K552 KUMARA
I then increased my budget and found REDRAGON K552 KUMARA . It is a great keyboard. Many people recommended me this. I even searched many shop to buy this keyboard but one night something hit me. REDRAGON K552 KUMARA does not have a brown switch version. REDRAGON K552 KUMARA does not have programable RGB (No app to customize) and lastly it did not had a wireless mode. I have a laptop and pc. I regularly switch between both of them. The keyboard in my laptop is good but if I buy a keyboard in this price range I would like to use it with both my laptop and my desktop. So, it was also a deal breaker. (having a Gamery look with red accent did not help either).
Royal Kludge RK61
Royal Kludge RK61 is also a good keyboard at it's price range. It's almost a Royal kludge RK71 with a bit of complicity. As a TKL (Ten Key Less) keyboard it had a mode to switch some keys to alternating letters. For example, to use question mark, one has to switch mode by pressing two button and then press the question mark key. and again press those two button to switch. It is a lot of hassle to go through and it dramatically reduces the typing speed and the fun of typing. So it was a deal breaker.
The other option I had left over with was Royal Kludge RK71. Seen a lot of review about it and almost all of them were positive review. Yes, it is not a perfect keyboard but it had somethings that I wanted. Royal Kludge RK71 has a all black build quality which is enough premium for a average man like myself. It has three switches option and as a first time user I wanted to go with the brown one. Royal Kludge RK71 has Programmable RGB which can be customized by their software which can be downloaded from their website. It had a wireless mode and it can connect with 5 devices at the same time. These are all the things I needed. So, I started searching for a seller to buy this keyboard.
Order Placement :
As the COVID-19 situation stands, importing product is becoming harder and harder. So, when I started searching for my keyboard I could not find much. I wanted Royal Kludge RK71 black color with brown switches. Maximum shops had black color with red/blue switches or white color with red/blue/brown switches. I waited for a few week. One evening after Iftar I was scrolling my news feed in Facebook (where you can follow me btw). I saw a post by Spark Online Shopping BD. They had black keyboard with brown switches and they have posted 5 mins ago. So before they ran out of stock, I messaged them that I want to buy it. They asked me to fill a form. I filled the form in 26th April, 2021. They told me it will be here within 28th April. It was the end of the month and I have just took Triangle Internet. So, I tried to borrow some money. And I did but the keyboard did not arrive at 28th. I messaged them and they again said "Porshudin In Sha Allah peye jaben". Just to confirm I asked "Friday?", They confirmed me. Friday was April 30th. I waited but nothing came. I messaged them again in 1st May and they asked me to wait till 8PM. I waited but again I received nothing. Now I was getting frustrated. I messaged them and they just seenzoned me.
Spark Online Shopping BD had a great reputation in the community. Everyone was recommending them left to right, I was truly disappointed by their service. I almost lost hope. Then at 3rd April, I saw another post in the community. It was a shared post by Spark Online Shopping BD. They edited their previous post and removed the black-brown combo. I saw a few good comment on that post and then commented myself about my scenario. The owner of Spark Online BD saw it and ask me to knock him. I knocked him and he asked for my order number from the spreadsheet. I pointed my number and he told me that they have run out of black color with brown switches. He asked me to take other ones. I was furious at that time and replied that I have ordered within 5 min of that post. There is no way they ran out of all the brown-blacks in that 5 minutes. He then apologized and gave me hope. A few minutes later he confirmed my order and said the keyboard will be coming.
He contacted someone from Blisstyle - Electronics. They said it will be here within 5th April and sure enough, it was here. The keyboard is from Blisstyle - Electronics and they provided a one year warrenty on the product. Spark Online shopping BD is a great page with excellent review. What might have happened was either they missed my order and sold the units to other customer offline or they have not received any black browns. Either way, if I have not placed that comment on that post, I would not have had my keyboard today.
Hands On :
Unboxing new product is always exciting and fun. I was waiting almost 10 days for this product so I was supper excited. I received the product and costed me 3900 BDT (3800+100 delivery) . I unboxed it and shot some video. I will try to edit the video and if I find it good enough, I may upload it to my YouTube. Unboxing the box we see the keyboard. Under the hood of the box, we find a key caps puller, a user manual, two stand ons, one USB type A to type C cable.
Impression :
The first thing every new mechanical keyboard users do is to press the keys. I did it too and figured the key were not as clicky and noisy as I expected them to be. I have not used red, blue, brown switches side by side so it is not surprising to be disappointed. Actually I did not know what to expect. I was a bit underwhelm by the keys at first but now I have been using it for around a hour and it feels great. At first impression I was regretting for not going with blue switches but now it is perfectly fine. I used the keycap puller to pull one keycap and confirmed the switches were actually browns.
I switched on my Desktop and connected the keyboard. They keyboard was not working. The lights were on but they key presses were not showing anything. As it had a wireless mode, I had a switch in the back which turns the wireless mode on and off. I tried to both options but it was not working. So I disconnected the USB c cable and reconnected it and it was working just fine.
Then I went to the Royal Kludge website to download the drivers. I downloaded their software and installed it. It was in Chinese( not sure ). I had to go to settings and then manually select English and then press apply. Those all were in Chinese so I used Google Lens to translate. After that the software was up and running. I customized the LED to a static color to match with my mouse (Logitech G102 Lightsync).
One last Problem I faced was that there was a red light poping in my space bar. I thought my RGB color is flawed and tried to get contact with my seller. But it took me a few minutes to realize that it was a charging LED. It went of after a few minutes of being connected and has not light up yet. So if you face it too, don't worry. You can mod your keyboard to hide it's light but I am not going to do so.
Final words, I like the keyboard till now. Some say hype make you disappointed but I am not disappointed with this keyboard yet. I am loving it till now and surely can recommend to anyone like me to buy this at 3900BDT. You will not regret it (Try the switches first and then choose one).
