Mental Stress and Depression | MysticPosting
It's 21st July, 2020. It's been 5 month since all the Educational Institute has been closed. People are at their home more than ever before. I'm pretty sure many of us enjoyed the first few weeks of Quarantine but as time passed by, we tend to get bored. As one great man once said, "Too much of anything is good for nothing."
During this Quarantine, most of us have started to grown a bad habit of staying up late at night and waking up at noon. There are a lot of bad site to this but come on, who cares about physical health that will effect us in future. As a young person, most of us do not think about our future let alone our physical health. Unless we are sick, we think we are doing just okay. It feels this way because of the flame of youth inside us. As we grow old, our body won't be able to cope up with the stress and it will crumble. All the stress we are putting on it now, will add that time and it will be painful. But come on, we see our parents, they also suffer from stress related illness and those does not feel that bad. Well, we have to keep one thing in mind that, they came from an era when playing meant going out and running, jumping and doing physical exercise. As fit they are in their 40s and 50s, we may be that fit at our 20s. So yes, Physical damage to our body is being done either we acknowledge it or not. FYI, even knowing all of this, i do nothing to make myself more active and fit.
I'm not a doctor. So, I can not talk about the specific physical damages. But the psychological damages can be felt. Most of us (young generation) suffer from depression. It can be about anything. But almost in all cases some thing are common. Let me demonstrate some in no particular order.
Social media plays a important role in our mental health. Believe it or not, most of the people on social media love to share their best part of life. It is not bad in any way but when a third person sees this, they think others are having a better life than him/her. This happens to almost every one of us, more or less. We have to keep in mind that even the happiest one in our contact has some down time. He is just too good at hiding it.
On the other hand, as social media become more and more accessible to people there is also a insecurity of public humiliation. Whenever someone post something bad, people tends to skip it or criticize it. Only a few would respond with the best wishes or solutions. This is the reason many of us do not post online that much. This may feel better to keep everything within ourselves but it does not help. A positive response from the people who care about us, is the mental support we need. When we share our stresses with the people that cares, they try to give us the best advice Even if they can not give a advice, they give us a path to find the solution to the problem. And also, among all of this we tend to feel a bit relieved as sharing problems reduces it weight,
If we do not share the weight, we are more like to think about it again and again. Most of the time, we overthink it. In this Quarantine, there is not much to do, so in our leisure we overthink about our problems, At night, when everything turns quiet, we think about it more and more and get depressed.
One of the main reason of this generation's depression is staying up late. Just think about it, none of our previous generation were not this much depressed as we are today. One argument may come as, they haven't faced our obstacles. They also had obstacles. Yes, those obstacles were not exactly like ours but if we think about it, theirs were worse. Many of our father walked miles to get to their school and colleges. Many may find it to be bluff but it is true. They really had to do so. Many of them suffer poverty while studying but still they stood still. There is a reason our parents do not understand our problems. Cause to them, they faced far tougher problems. On to our problems, if we observe the main struggle of our problems starts after 2AM. When we get lonely and think a lot. Before 2AM we are constantly doing something to keep our mind busy. Psychological or mental stress is as the name goes, it is a stress on our mind. If we keep our mind busy, those mental stress won't haunt us. This is the reason why at our work at our hobbies, we forget our pains. And yes, this is also the reason many people take drugs, just to divert their mind. So, to recover from any mental stress or depression, we just have to make our mind divert from the thing that is stressing us. And as the night goes deep, we get less thing to divert our mind to. So we must sleep as early as we can, again referring to our older generation who never stayed up late at night,
Another thing we can do. At night, we sometime get some crazy idea or plan to a fresh start. Whatever you want take a leap then. Do not wait for tomorrow. Tomorrow does not come. Name me one thing you plan to start from the next date and actually did. By taking one step right now, you are starting a job to your routine. So, whenever you are bored or wasting time, you will see that step you took and will continue the job till it's finished. One of my senior once said to create a folder in my home screen naming PASSION. So whenever I open the laptop, I see that folder and take a step toward my passion. That is one of the best advice I have got from my senior till this day.
